Graeme

Graeme

Color:               DSH Grey Tabby with white paws, chest, tummy and muzzle

Born Approx:   September 5, 2022
Gender:            Neutered Male (microchipped)

History:

Graeme was a neighbourhood stray for a couple of years. The person who finally took him in had seen him infrequently during that time but in early January 2025, he came to her door and asked to be let in. He was not underweight so obviously had a food source, but he needed to be vetted. Soon he was neutered, vaccinated and screened. Now he's looking for his very own home with a family who will continue to help him adjust to being a strictly indoor cat - for his own safety and to protect our bird populations.

Personality:

Initially Graeme wasn't overly appreciative of being kept inside; however, he's doing very well now and only complains a bit in the evening. It lessens each day. He lives with other foster cats who weren't thrilled to welcome a recently neutered male to their little club. It can take a month or more before a mature male cat's hormones completely recede. His integration was a bit tough for the a couple of the resident cats but Graeme does not pick fights. One wanted to challenge him, one was obsessed with everywhere he went, the others were wary initially but soon didn't really care. The complaints and slight skirmishes have gradually decreased to the point where he is with the other cats all the time during the day. At this point (one month on), his foster mom continues to put him in his own bedroom for the night, just to ensure a peaceful sleep for everyone.

Graeme likes people and trusts them. He is large and muscular but very gentle and never complains when picked up, carried around and or when put in a kennel for a trip to the veterinary clinic. When petted, he arches his back to welcome your touch. He loves head scritches and being brushed. He will let you trim his nails with little fuss. He likes to jump up on the bed with his person (more so when it's just him and his foster mom). He is also learning how to play - for now, a laser pointer is his favourite. He will be a wonderful companion for a lucky forever human - maybe with fewer cats than he currently has in his life :) To begin with, he was frightened of the two small dogs in his foster home but they don't want a relationship with him and so he's realized they are no threat. Living outdoors as a stray, he no doubt ran into a few cats and dogs who didn't appreciate his visits so he had every right to be on his guard. He is learning and adapting.
