Cher

July 5/24: Cher tested positive for the Feline Leukemia Virus. Her young mother, Honey, and sister, Jade, have both passed away from the disease. Jade died suddenly on June 28, 2024. Shortly after that, Honey became very ill and was euthanized on July 4/24. PAW does not screen every cat that comes into its system - only those that appear unwell or ones who clearly have had a rough street life. Honey didn't fit into either of those scenarios. Feline Leukemia is not common. It is contracted by prolonged contact with a feline leukemia positive cat, or inutero from a positive mother cat. She was vet checked and vaccinated shortly after intake in late June/24. Succumbing to this disease just a few days later means she was likely infected before she was even pregnant (possibly inutero from her own mother).

Kittens can sometimes clear the virus from their bodies and, with that hope, Cher was re-tested on October 10/24 where we were very disappointed to learn she is still positive. However, she continues to live a quality life and we will be going forward with having her spayed on October 29, 2024.

We would be extremely grateful if a compassionate person came forward to permanently foster this precious little cat (she has the dearest personality). It would need to be a home without other cats or one with a cat who already has Feline Leukemia. The virus only affects cats - it cannot be transferred to humans or pets of other species. Cats living with Feline Leukemia can live for several years when well cared for (complete and balanced diet, health care, LOVE, indoors only). PAW will cover all veterinary costs and will be available to respond for any reason. Caring for and loving a little cat like Cher - no matter the duration - is a vital part of rescue. It's also the part you don't hear a lot about because it is SAD. But little Cher doesn't know anything about sad. She continues on her merry little way, living in the moment. We want the same life for her as any other cat - to know love for as long as hers may be.

Cher

Colour:              DLH Black and White (Tuxedo)

Born:                  April 24, 2024

Gender:             Female

History:

Cher and her family were surrendered to PAW on June 14, 2024. She is the only surviving member of her family (see above).

Personality:

Cher is a very loving little girl! She adores attention! Says foster mom, "Cher doesn't have bad days. She's a normal, play-driven kitten. She runs and leaps in the air, plays with her crinkle balls and interacts with her temporary foster person. She likes to be held unless she has the zoomies, then she MUST ZOOM. At night, she loves to cuddle up closely with a warm human body.
